Further instructions

IRATA logbooks and ID cards

If this is your first IRATA course you will not have an IRATA logbook and ID card. IRATA documentation will be dispatched from IRATA ‘s head office following successful completion of the training course. The cost of these documents is included in your course fee and completed by Vertech on your behalf.

Identification

If you are an existing IRATA rope access technician (current or expired) you must provide your IRATA logbook and ID card to the training team on day 1 of training, prior to the start of the course.

IRATA requires the training company and the assessor to verify the ID of the candidate separately.

Please provide Government-issued ID, such as driving licenses or passports, to your trainers at the start of the course.

Fitness for rope access

This is a physically demanding and mentally challenging course and job. Males and females of all shapes and sizes have successfully passed the course and are active in the industry, however, it is essential to understand that rope access is physical work and is not for everyone. Training courses will be intensive as trainees will be required to ascend and descend the ropes multiple times a day. People carrying excess weight or unaccustomed to manual labour may struggle to meet the requirements. Due to equipment loading capacities and safety concerns, anyone weighing more than 140kg is not able to be trained at Multiforcegroup.

Language problems

Our training course is taught in English. We welcome people from all nationalities and cultures, many of our trainers are from overseas however, we are unable to cater for non-English speakers. For safety reasons, trainees must be fluent in English.

Prior learning

No previous experience is necessary for a fresh entry IRATA level 1 rope access course. Some prior learning may be useful to ease the learning curve however a trainee of average ability can pass the course without prior knowledge.

Tying knots is a fundamental skill in rope access. Some prior learning with knots could provide trainees with a head-start if they are able and wish to do so. Using a rope with a diameter of 8-12mm is best. Please check out our website for the video library which provides tutorial on knots, typical equipment, rope access manoeuvres and rescues.

Group learning

Rope access courses are taught in small groups of 8 trainees max per course. There is a significant amount of content to cover in the syllabus therefore training is completed at the pace of the group. Trainees with no prior experience in working with ropes or at height may require extra training and delay the assessment to a later stage. Four days is the minimum requirement and suitable for a trainee of average ability. Some people will take longer to learn than others. There is a fee charged for extra training.
